What are the materials that I should start with?
If you're working with beginners, your first lessons could use
the alphabet critters,
blue jello cards 101
and the grand staff slate 1 with
some magic notes and wands.

This looks too hard for me to do, but I think it's really neat. Any suggestions?
How about beginning with one packet? An easy (and very useful) one
is Packet #2: Blue Jello Cards.
After reading the instructions, print just a few pages on regular
paper. This will take you through the steps involved. If you think
you can manage it, buy card stock the next time you're out doing
errands and print a "real" set of cards.
The Course Booklet will tell
you the words to use for the various symbols. (Tip: You can read
the booklet without printing it.) Then show the cards to your
students. If you already have the book Music Mind Games,
you will find some suggestions in there, too.

How long does it take to prepare all the materials?
This depends on various factors, i.e. if you do this yourself or
take it to a printer, if you already have paper, if you need to
run out and get new ink cartridges, if you and that printer on
your desk are on friendly terms, if you have access to a paper cutter and if
you laminate your materials. Figure one hour if you want to print
and cut a few sets of different cards to twelve hours or more
to do it all. Remember to take your time and read the directions
carefully. That will certainly save you time in the long run.

How complicated is it to prepare the materials?
It is not complicated at all. We've invested a lot of time
in creating good instructions and the process has been repeatedly
tested by lots of teachers.

What supplies do I need to prepare the materials?
We have put together Shopping
Suggestions to help you choose
the best paper for printing your materials. These have worked best
for teachers so far, but feel free to experiment. If you find
better alternatives, please let us know.

Can I print in B&W?
Yes. The materials were designed to be printed either in color or
in black and white. Printing them in B&W could be more economical.
top
Where will I find the supplies?
All the supplies you need to prepare your materials can be found at
most office supply stores.
top
Do I need any special software to prepare the materials?
No. The materials come in the PDF format, all you need to view and
print them is the free
Adobe® Acrobat Reader®.
Most computers have it installed already. If that's not your case,
just follow the Adobe link to install the reader.

Should I use a commercial printer to produce my materials?
The materials can be easily produced using a home computer and an inexpensive
color printer. If you're not up to it or you think you need some help,
take your packet files to a commercial printer. They will be glad to help.

Can I save money by not laminating my materials?
In the short run, yes. And if your materials won't get that
much use, they will be fine not laminated. Actually, Michiko has used her
MMG materials (from Warner Bros.) for years without laminating
them and they're okay. However, lamination will protect them for
the long term.
