Description

This game is found on page 52 in the Music Mind Games book .
Ages: 3 - adult.

FINE! is used throughout Music Mind Games to reinforce many different concepts. Fine is pronounced "fee'-nay," like the Italian musical term which means "to finish". It is a popular game with good energy and it's so fun, no one ever thinks of it as practice.

Objective

Repetitions: 3 - 6 in a session.
Fine - Tempos in Wellington, New Zealand

FINE! can be used to practice:

  • seconds and other intervals, using alphabet cards or do re mi cards
  • the order of notes and rests, using rhythm playing cards
  • notes on the staff, using grand staff cards, staff slates, magic notes, clefs and ledger line sheets
  • dynamics, using music symbol cards
  • tempos, using tempo cards
  • key signatures, using alphabet cards, accidentals and/or staff slates, magic notes, and clefs
  • the order of sharps or flats, using alphabet cards, accidentals and/or staff slates, magic notes, and clefs

The Game in Brief

Each student has one set of cards (or whatever materials are being used). Everyone mixes their cards up until the teacher says, "Go!", hurries to put their cards in the correct order, and says "Fine!" when finished.

Materials

The following pages will explain how to play "FINE!" to practice learning the musical alphabet in seconds. If you want to play along, you will need one set of alphabet cards.

To practice other concepts, simply substitute other materials.
