I need the other materials shown in your big book
Dear Michiko,
I recently ordered your puppy packet materials. I've been using your No H in Snake book for the last 3 years in my piano studio, and was making my own manipulatives to go with those games. I just received your music mind games book and I'm confused as to what other teaching materials I need to go with the puppy packet and also where to find them. I am building my group theory program around the music mind games curriculum and want to have all the materals that I am going to need. Also, I would love to host a workshop in my area. I live in Kennewick, Washington, which is eastern Washington state.
Thank you, Cynthia Rawlings (ckrawlings@hotmail.com)
Hi Cynthia -
Thank you for writing me and your interest in Music Mind Games for your theory program. The Puppy Packet can be the basis of the materials for your students. Ideally, it’s best if each student has their own Puppy Packet to use in class/lesson and take home for practice. If you are teaching classes, and it’s not possible for students to own their own Puppy Packet it’s good that you have one for several students to share. In addition, there are 10 other Music Mind Games materials that I use regularly:
1. blue jello word cards
2. music symbol cards set 2
3. blue jello cards set 2
4. notes and rests cards
5. real rhythm cards
6. rhythm bingo cards
7. melodic bingo cards
8. cardboard keyboards
9. blue jello rhythm puzzle
10. gold coins
The first 5 items are still in a “testing mode” and will be available as print-your-own downloads very soon. The blue jello word cards should be ready next week with the others coming shortly afterwards. Items 6-8 are being slightly revised, prepared for printing and will be available in a few months in sets of 12. I am still researching production with items 9-10. When items 6-8 are printed, we will also offer sets of 12 staff slates. The bingo cards and staff slates will be sold with magic notes and magic wands. All the items will be colorful, laminated and sold with nice, reusable packaging. Additionally, I am working on a book of First Steps games.
I apologize that all the materials aren’t ready now, but I’m making progress and keeping my eye on the goal. I hope my response has been useful for you. Let me know if you have further questions.
Thank you for offering to host a workshop. Let’s see what can work out. Are you thinking of a Unit 1 teacher training course? That’s approx. 20-25 teachers meeting for 5 consecutive days.

Hi Michiko,
Thank you for the information. It is very helpful! I'm excited to download and order the other materials as they become available. I already am enjoying using the puppy packet. I was thinking of a Unit 1 teacher training.

Good work! I always like to leave comments whenever I see something unusual or impressive. I think we must appreciate those who do something especial. Keep it up, thanks

The cards are perfectly numbered for this game, but if we're short on time I may only do a grid of 16, possibly only including cards the student knows. And I'm not very strict about rules; sometimes I'll prompt the student to help her remember. Packs of game cards, teaching tips and guide cards are grouped together in a sturdy carry box. These materials are ideal for one student, small groups or classroom situations. Class in Washington
Dear Michiko (and Cynthia),
I have been using MMG off and on for the past two years, and more frequently this year in conjuction with our Yamaha Music in Education curriculum. I have not been able to raise the funds to attend a Unit 1 class in D.C. I would love to attend a Unit 1 training course and I can afford to drive across the mountains to the Eastern part of the state, or I would be happy to host the class at our elementary school in Fife, WA. Unfortunately I do not know of other music teachers who would like the training, as there are only two of us elementary teacher's in fife, and the other districts around us only use the adopted music series, so I was excited to see Cynthia's post. I can be contacted at madamsmusic@earthlink.net. If she is going the WMEA convention this Feb. we might be able to work together to get enough participants at the convention to form a class for later in the school year or summer.
Thank you so much for the new websites and the youtube videos. It has made it so much easier to use your materials successfully.
Sincerely,
Mark Adams
MMG in the Classroom
I just wanted to note that Music Mind Games materials work very well in conjunction with various Music Series texts. Reading the rhythms of songs in Blue Jello, Finding symbols in the printed music with the music symbol cards is very useful. However, all the games prepare children for using, reading and playing the music in these books. My recorder, drumming and Orff lessons are more successful with it and students are loving it. Teachers, you might try some out on your own and invite other teachers to play with you.
