Lessons with the Puppy Packet over Skype!

Hi, My sister passed on her MMG "Home Games" packet from the Levine School of Music which she was using with her children 10 years ago. Is this packet still relevant or do I need to purchase the "Puppy Packet" to keep current with the games? Also how would I find a teacher who knows how to teach using this method? I live in Columbia, South Carolina. My current teacher does not know anything about it and seems to have no interest in learning about it. I have no music training so it's a little overwhelming and confusing to me and I don't feel comfortable teaching this to her even though I do have the instruction booklet included in the packet. Thanks in advance for your time.

Re: packet

Hi Jennifer -

Thank you for writing me. Yes, the materials your sister gave you can still be very useful to help learn many things about theory and reading music. The Puppy Packet has improved cards that are print on high quality paper using bright colors and graphics. There are also game ideas and guide cards (the answers to the information on the cards) that could be very useful in helping your figure things out.

It's important for you to follow your daughter's teacher's suggestions to help you get the most out of lessons. Is your teacher in favor of you helping your daughter at home? As a teacher I'm always so appreciative of whatever the parents can do to enrich and support what we cover in the lessons. Time is always too short to cover everything I want to in the lessons. Even if you have not had any musical training, it should be possible for you to figure out the games in your booklet since I wrote it with that in mind. Many parents have done this with great results.

Good luck with your music lessons. Enjoy the time with your daughter. I have fond memories of this when my children were young. Now they are all in the 20's and life is different.

Hi, Thanks for your reply.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. We plan on doing lessons through Skype with a teacher in North Carolina since there are no teachers I know of in our area, Columbia, SC. If you know of any let me know. She uses the Puppy Packet.

She uses the Puppy Packet. The question is do you suggest I buy the whole packet or can I buy pieces of it to supplement what I already have to make it complete? If so what are the games/materials that are missing from my old packet?

Thanks,
Jennifer Gable
