A Child's Memory From 36 Years Ago
My name is Doug Hipwell and in 1972/73 - I was 5 years old attending Suzuki Camp in Stevens Point with my Mom, Shirley Hipwell. Haruko Kataoka was the guest teacher. I performed at the main concert and you sat with me making paper cranes. Isn't it funny what we remember as little kids? I ran accross your web site today and just wanted to send a note of "thanks" for what you do and that even though we are children - we still remember - and it's wonderful. Thank you. Doug Hipwell
Hi Michiko,
Yes - you may absolutely use my e-mail in whole or part. I do have a picture of me on the stage but will need to scan it for you!
Music is very much apart of my life recreationally. I took piano lessons thru high school and pick-up guitar and electric guitar several years ago. I still love to play when I can and am excited to begin having my children (Robert 5) and (Jack 2) start lessons soon. For my career, I've worked for AT&T for 18 years in their Business Services Group as a Director of Sales.
There are so many things that music has taught me:
* I think the biggest thing is that music enables me a way to express myself where words cannot. I feel music touches my soul and enables me to share my emotions and feeling.
* Music also developed a strong sense of esteem. I felt I had a gift that was unique and could be shared. I felt special.
* Suzuki piano taught me the benefits of discipline, hard work and practice....sometimes that was fun and sometimes that was hard!
For me, I would like to write music using software tools such as Apple's Garage Band and other music studio tools. That's my next step - although it is hard to find time working full time with two young boys! But I will find a way!
Thanks again Michiko!
Regards,
Doug
