Rhythm Bingo Cards

MMG-RBC

The rhythm bingo cards are a set of 12 two-sided, colorful cards measuring 11" x 16". Not your ordinary bingo cards, these versatile cards will help students read rhythms, see patterns of notes and rests as "rhythmic words", understand the relative values of notes and rests, and keep a steady beat. Although it is possible to teach the Blue Jello vocabulary using these cards, ideally students should be familiar with the Blue Jello words, rhythms and hand signs by using the blue jello cards set 1 and the blue jello word cards. The rhythm bingo cards are designed so that they can also be used in traditional teaching situations without using the Blue Jello vocabulary, giving teachers flexibility to teach in any way they choose.

If you've been lucky enough to have the original Warner Bros. set, you'll want to upgrade to this fully revised set of cards with improved rhythms, 3 choices of time signatures, graphics and card coating.

The cards: Each card is unique with nine carefully arranged patterns on each side. The patterns on Side 1 use rhythms from the blue jello cards set 1 in 4/4 time. Side 2 uses the rhythms from blue jello cards set 1 and set 2 in three different meters: 3/4, 4/4 and 6/8. To provide a touch of humor and engage different learning styles, each card includes several Blue Jello word drawings.

Teacher's Guide: This handy guide shows all the patterns used on the cards.

Magic notes and magic wand: The magic notes are used to mark patterns and the magic wand makes clean-up fun.

Rhythm Bingo Cards Ideas:  The 8-page insert includes the article, "Blue Jello – A Delicious Way to Study Rhythm" which explains the philosophy behind teaching rhythm with the Blue Jello vocabulary, Blue Jello hand signs and Blue Jello drawings and includes a detailed chart of these concepts. The following games are included for guidance and to spark the imagination.

Game 1: Rhythm Bingo Note Hunt (Side 1)

In this game, students find all of one note or rest on their cards at one time, e.g., all the blues, all the gooseberries, or all the jello jellos. The repetition of finding one thing over and over is a well-paced activity for beginning students of all ages.

Game 2: Rhythm Bingo (Side 1)

This game helps students see patterns of notes and rests as "rhythmic words" using the traditional game of bingo with a nice twist (everyone wins!). Students instinctively move their eyes quickly to identify patterns. This helps develop good reading skills. The game can be played with individual students using one card, small groups using one card, small groups using several cards or a group of students using all the cards at once.

Game 3: Rhythm Bingo (Side 2)

This game helps students learn Blue Jello rhythms in three meters with patterns a little trickier than those on Side 1. Suggestions are included for teaching students how to identify meters by listening.

Game 4: Rhythms Across (Side 1 or 2)

Students sight-read rhythms using Blue Jello vocabulary and Blue Jello hand signs by lining up two or three rhythm bingo cards side by side. May include pitch improvisation and/or instruments for performances.

Includes:
12 two-sided cards (coated with an environmentally-friendly aqueous coating for durability)
Game Ideas contains 4 games and the Blue Jello chart with Blue Jello vocabulary, Blue Jello drawings, and Blue Jello hand sign photos.
