Karin Hallberg, Ph. D. is Assistant Concertmaster and Principal Violin II of the Flagstaff Symphony and a regular performer in the NAU Faculty Chamber Music Series. While living in Minneapolis, she regularly performed with the Minnesota Opera, the Plymouth Music Series, and the Minnesota Composer's Forum. Her teachers include James Maurer, Paul Rolland, Stephen Clapp, Sergiu Luca, James and Jacquelyn Maurer, William Starr, John Kendall, Louise Behrand, Mark Bjork, and Dr. Louise Scott.

Educational Background
Dr. Hallberg aquired her Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Psychology with an emphasis in Learning and Instruction from Northern Arizona University. She received her Master of Education in Counseling and Human Relations from Northern Arizona University and a Master of Arts degree with a Suzuki Pedagogy emphasis from the University of Denver. She earned her Bachelor of Music from the University of Denver.
Teaching Experience
Dr. Hallberg is currently Senior Lecturer of violin, Suzuki Pedagogy. She is also the coordinator of the NAU Community Music and Dance Academy Suzuki Strings Program. Additionally, Dr. Hallberg is an adjunct instructor in the NAU College of Education, Department of Educational Psychology. She teaches applied theories of learning to both graduate and undergraduate students. Her research is on the impact of early instrumental musical instruction using the Suzuki approach on working memory and attention in kindergarten children.
Dr. Hallberg is coordinator, instructor, and grant writer for a K-2 Suzuki String Program at Marshall Magnet Elementary School, a Title 1 elementary school. The Marshall Suzuki program is featured in the ASTA publication String Teaching in America: Strategies for a Diverse Society (2005). This program received the Arizona Governor arts Award in 2012, and is funded by the Catherine B. Adel Foundation. From 2007 - 2008, she was the Interim Director of the Community Music Institute and String Pedagogy Instructor at the University of Oregon in Eugene. Dr. Hallberg was an instructor of violin at MacPhail Center for the Arts in Minneapolis from 1986 - 1994.
Dr. Hallberg was a recipient of the VIOLA Arts Educator award from the Flagstaff Arts Council in 2014. Adittionally, she received the Shar Distinguished Young Teacher Award in 1986.

Dr. Hallberg has taught as a guest clinician at Suzuki Workshops in Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and Wisconsin. She has also taught in Bermuda and Puerto Rico. In June 2018, she presented a paper at an International Symposium in Athens, Greece.
